Oliver Twist

The original story of Oliver Twist by Dickens is bit sombre and negative. A poor boy works in a workhouse where he is subjected to abuse. He is later surrounded by thieves in London and other boys from similar deprived backgrounds. It saddens the heart and allows one to think only of greed, poverty, corruption and perceived power.

Yet on closer inspection, the film is actually rather positive. Directed by Roman Polanski the film is a classic. Oliver Twist is a boy - an orphan- of innocence. he is forced to labor and work for the benefit of others on virtually no sustenance. He and his fellows draw straws to see who will ask for more gruel - Oliver loss. To cut a long story short - and to encourage you to watch the film - Oliver is sent away and meets the Artful Dodger - and so the story unfolds.

Lot London

There are certainly lots of very catchy and energetic songs which will have you and your children singing for months to come. Indeed, there are plenty of children in the cast as a whole, and the theme is lightened with songs such as "Food, Glorious Food" and "Consider Yourself." The parts of Fagin and Bill Sikes are played by adults and they give an admirable account of themselves.

The backdrop of London locations adds to the whole atmosphere of poverty and jollity; and even though the film is over two hours long, somehow it doesn't feel as though it drags at all. A must see classic for all.
